This series deals with the link between African formality and protocol and the stigma around mental illness and mental health. Formality and protocol here are used as metaphors for the masks we wear to hide our pain around family and friends, because of the requirement to act and be a certain way around others…the same way you are required to speak and act a certain way in formal settings like parliament.
